Rental assistance
Rental assistance in Ohio: Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) and public housing are run by local public housing agencies; HUD lists Ohio's agencies at HUD list of Ohio public housing agencies. Verified 2026-10-13.
Fully verified means the official link loaded as the real page (not a bot wall, a not-found page or a redirect elsewhere) on 2026-10-13 and the administering agency was named on that page or by a federal directory. Lower counts mean a state site blocked our checker or did not name its agency, not that the program is missing.
Coverage by assistance type
Solid bars count states where the official link loaded on 2026-10-13 and the agency was named; the hatched band adds rows whose link the federal directory lists but whose site blocked our checker or did not print an agency name. 32 of 51 jurisdictions are fully verified on all six types; the lowest are Arizona (2), Minnesota (2), California (3), Connecticut (3).

Pick your state above for HUD's list of its agencies, plus any state rental program HUD's state page names. In 15 states HUD also points renters to a specific state or city rental program.
Who runs LIHEAP utility assistance in my state?

What is a state housing finance agency?
A state housing finance agency (HFA) is the public agency that runs a state's first-time homebuyer, down payment and affordable rental finance programs. The list here follows the NCSHA member directory.
Where do I apply for SNAP food assistance?
Apply through your state SNAP agency. Each row links the state SNAP website and, where USDA lists one, the online application portal and phone line from the USDA SNAP State Directory of Resources.
How was this list verified?
Every row comes from a federal or national directory fetched on 2026-10-13 (HUD, the HHS LIHEAP Clearinghouse, NCSHA, America's SBDC, the USDA SNAP directory and Medicaid.gov). We then loaded each official link the same day. 303 of 306 rows have a working official link; 271 are fully verified with the agency named.
Why is a row marked unconfirmed or blank?
Some state sites block automated checks, and some pages do not print the agency name. We keep the link the federal directory lists and label it, and we never construct a URL. A row is blank only when the listed link failed to load.
Sources and method
Each assistance type comes from one national directory, fetched on 2026-10-13. We copied the agency and link that directory publishes for each state, then loaded every official link the same day. A link counts as loaded only when the real page came back: a "page not found" page served with a 200, a redirect to a homepage or an unrelated page, and a captcha or bot wall all fail the check. We never construct a URL: when a listed link failed, the row says so.
303 of 306 rows carry a working official link; 271 are fully verified. Phone numbers appear only where the source directory prints them. Program rules, income limits and open or closed status change often, so confirm details with the agency before you apply. City and ZIP search uses the US Census Bureau Vintage 2024 population estimates (300 largest cities) and the 2020 ZCTA relationship file.
